Who I am

Versatile and dedicated Game designer

I'm a well rounded professional with a passion for making games of all types. I enjoy learning new methods and tools to make better games, so I'm constantly improving. I love spreadsheets, flowcharts and hastily drawn sketches of levels and mechanics. I excel at finding creative solutions for new problems and being part of a team where we can collaborate to fix issues and find new ways to make fun experiences.

One of the elected board members of IMIRT, the Irish Game Developers association. Representing the interests and needs of game developers across the island. Helping the Irish games industry grow and develop further.

Leading a team working on Ken Levine’s upcoming game ‘Judas’ (Can’t say much else yet).

PAradox Interactive, Stockholm - Content Designer for Hearts of Iron

August 2021 - November 2023

Worked on the acclaimed WWII Grand Strategy game, designing content for playing during the 30s and 40s using History as a base for creating gameplay to recreate iconic events, and establishing alt-history scenarios and implementing it all on Paradox’s proprietary scripting language and engine.

Making levels and quests for Obsidian Entertainment titles like The Outer Worlds expansions and Grounded. Working in a team dedicated to writing documentation as a starting point, using Unreal Engine for iterating on Level Design, and employing Blueprints and custom tools for scripting missions. Also designed levels and mechanics for an unannounced AAA VR game for PS4.

Part of the team working on the award nominated mobile game Eden Isle: Resort Paradise. I'm focused on improving the game's balance, making new content for it, designing new features and carefully planning the game's progression.

BitSmith Games, Dublin - Level Design Intern

Worked on FranknJohn, a rogue-like adventure game available on Steam Early Access. It features small modular levels that are randomly organised each run so the possibilities are almost endless.

  • Made over 35 modular levels for FranknJohn.

Roles

Arms Against Tyranny is the Nordic expansion for Hearts of Iron 4, it introduces content for Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, an International Market system and overhauls the Industrial Organizations in the game.

Content Designer for Norway’s Historical and Alt-historical content, and the Joint Focus Tree for all Nordic countries. Also helped develop the Military Industrial Organizations system.

Description

Shrunk is a platform adventure game where you take the role of a scientist whose experiment has gone right! Except on the wrong subject. Help him get back to his original size (Or at least bigger) by using his miniature scaling beam to shrink and expand objects to gather enough crystals to fuel the ScalingBack machine at the other side of the room. It was made from the ground up using Unreal Engine 4 Blueprints, and it features a sandbox style level, populated jumping pads, slippery leaks, puzzles and platforming challenges, taking advantage of the main mechanic of scaling objects up and down.

You also have 4 abilities at your disposal, you can run a State Poll to know the preferences of that state, Campaign to increase your favour in one state, Fundraise to lose some voter but get more funds for your campaign, or you can pay an exorbitant amount of money to Leak, who know what will happen if you do?

LIFT is a side scrolling puzzle game where Commander Woc -An alien cow- must rescue her ancestors from the grasp of the humans who use them for food and clothing. You can lift objects and cows, but to make sure you are not seen, you’ll have to distract the inhabitants of this town with whatever is lying around.

As part of my Level Design internship for bitSmith games, I designed around 35 levels for the game FranknJohn, an action rogue-like currently in Steam Early Access. I used 3ds Max to build the levels out of pre-made assets and craft fun levels for the player to explore in the game.

Description

You were trapped in a dungeon by an evil wizard, and all you have at your disposal to escape is a magical torch and a magical bonfire, and some magical colored objects…Maybe your odds aren’t that bad… Just pick up the objects and throw them into the fire and absorb its color with your torch, you can also combine different objects to mix colors like purple, green and orange, and use the colors to break the magic colored ice doors.
